* Southwestern Ontario Gleaners is an not for profit charitable organization that will provide FREE dehydrated soup mix and dehydrated fruit for distribution to local community partners and reputable relief agencies around the world. * The goal is to feed hungry people locally and internationally. * The local region is known for agriculture production, especially vegetables. That is why Gleaners feel confident that this is the best possible place to start a Gleaning operation. * In the processing plant unmarketable produce is turned into nutritious dehydrated soup mix. This project benefits the entire community * retired people can volunteer and mentor the youth in the community * youth can help and get volunteer hours * farmers don’t have to pay to dispose of unmarketable produce and there will be less waste in the landfills. * But best of all, hungry people will be fed with the surplus received, both here and around the world. * The plant requires 30 to 40 volunteers to work from 8:30 am to 12 noon every day on the production line. (Come out and make new friends or renew old acquaintances while helping to make soup mix for those in need) Volunteer opportunities: * preparing secondary vegetables for dicing (remove spoilage) * Plant clean-up * food packaging * fork lift drivers * truck drivers * yard maintenance * janitorial duties * wash windows * prepare snack time for volunteers * baking * administration duties, etc. Growers can donate produce and receive a tax credit. (Click on the 'News and Events' tab of the website for details). * Funds can be donated * request to receive updates can be accommodated * Presentations available for Community Agencies
