|Description and Service Details|
|Description (Service)||Aim is to provide a steady, adult mentors in the lives of area children. The agency provides a variety of programs to meet the needs of a diverse population of children and youth age 5 -18. In the traditional one to one match an adult role model is matched to a child in our Community Based Big Brother Big Sister program. In the Couples for Kids program a married or common law couple who have 3 or 4 hours per week to spare are matched with a child. Through careful screening, suitable adult volunteers are matched with a child having similar interests. These matches are supervised by the agency casework staff.
The In-School Mentoring Program provides an opportunity for a man or woman to be matched with a child in the school setting. They meet once a week for one hour during the school year. A mentor is not there to tutor but to advise, guide and befriend.
Other school based programs include our Go-Girls and Game-On programs. Go Girls is a group based program designed specifically to meet the needs of girls while the Game-On program is a group based program designed to specifically meet the needs of boys. Both programs focus on healthy living, promoting good eating habits and physical activity.
The agency runs an in-house group based program for the children on the waiting list call Big Bunch. The program like all of our programs are run by screened agency volunteers. Big Bunch provides activities on a weekly basis.
